TN: 2007 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles Château Grenouilles WOW WOW!

  • 2007 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles Château Grenouilles - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (8/13/2021)
O…M…G…what a brilliant bottle! Last had this out of Mag 7yrs ago, great then, but simply amazing tonight! Gorgeous shimmering green and gold color…nose of the sea…crushed limestone chalk, lemon blossoms, wet stones, fresh pitted orchard fruit bowl. Just SCREAMS Chablis! So bright and juicy in the mouth with the best orchard fruits…CUT with zippy fresh squeeze citrus, tart green apple skin…and that mineral limestone chalk dust, crushed oyster salinity is to DIE FOR! No signs of age…maybe a little honey butter with total integration. Such purity, seamless balance…a ride on a race boat going 80, in the smooth and calmest of waters…this is what Chablis is all about! (97 pts.)

simply amazing wine out of a coop. Price, quality—great stuff.

I want that picture!

That color! You can tell it is a rocking challis just by the coloring on the edges of the glass. I’m jealous of your fortune.

The Frog; one of my favorite Chablis vineyards, the smallest of the GC’s. I’ve had mostly the La Chablisienne, but I’ve also tried the Fevre and Louis Michel. I still remember the first sip I ever had of this wine years ago; a 2005 La Chablisienne Grenouilles, in a hotel in Vancouver. It was my favorite Chablis from that vintage, and one of my WsOTY in 2009.
Thanks for posting, but “shhh!”

One of my favorite Chablis, always a pleasure to drink but so hard to find. Thanks for the tasting note!

I get SO giddy when I see color like that pour out in older whites. flirtysmile

Haven’t had this vintage but have had it in other vintages a few times, normally at 4-5 years of age. Always found it too oaked for my preference and coming across as nothing like Chablis. When it was in a blind tasting, my guess was a well-made albeit a bit oak-heavy Australian Chardonnay, priced probably around $20.

Although I consider Chablisienne one of the actually great co-ops, in those couple of instances when tasting their higher-end wines I’ve always found them a bit overdone, speaking more about winemaking than about terroir.

However, at least this note gives a little promise that they might eventually turn good if given enough age.

La Chablisienne does an incredible job especially with their PC wines. Absolutely one of my go to favorites. They age well, as Buzz mentioned , but I have been going through a ton of '14s.

Cheers!
