TN: 2007 Foley Claret

Fresh out of the bottle this wine shows very little. Gone are the days of Foley Claret being a lush, hedonistic pop and pour experience (i.e, 2001 to 2004). As with the 05 and 06, the Foley Claret is more heavy on the tannin and astringency. So after a glass of a very disappointing wine I gassed the rest and put it into the refrigerator for the next 2 days.

Today the wine is much better. The fruit has a more glycerin rich, kirsch infused, blackcherry character with chalky tannins and a long finnish. A subtle sweetness is even emerging.

On day 1 I would have scored this an 87. Today I would score it a 93-95. But I think this wine is built for the long haul and in 10 years could show even better still.

And Parker hates the wines now, since the style change.

Good for those who like it, because it is much easier to find now.
