2007 Domaine Vrignaud Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume- France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (1/13/2010)
First time with this Producer…light pale gold color, nose of minerals, chalk, lemon oil, sea air. Nice full mouthfeel of peach pit fruit, green apple, grapefruit…chalky minerals, high toned lemon/lime acidity. Has a steely Grüner Veltliner-ness to it with some raw peanut, and pepper spice. Good Chablis mix of white flowers and some salty sea shell…as well as a little lemon soap foam. Not terribly complex…but I like this wine. Clean and refreshing, low price, with Chablis terroir. Would buy again at $20. (91 pts.)
These wines age very well too. I bought and sold some of the 04 and 05 recently and they were drinking very well these last few months. Vrignaud is nice producer at all levels, even the basic Chablis.
Interesting side note…noticed last night while drinking the last of the bottle, that the cork had “Chablis Vieilles Vignes” on it…and was stamped 2004!!! I took the foil off my remaining bottle, and it had Fourchaume and 2007 on it.
Having the other bottle tonight, with the correct cork, pretty much the same as the first…maybe more steely Grüner Veltliner-ness to it, and seems to be a little more soapy? Not as enthused with this bottle tonight…but would buy more at the price point. I think it is need of a couple years right now…so if I get a chance, I would grab a few to hold on to. 90+pts
