Wow this is a great QPR! I’ll compare this to the St. Cosme CdR since that will help those buying in this range hopefully. The tannins are significantly softer and this wine is much more open. The nose has strong violet and cherry notes that are very nice. The palate is medium to full bodied but definitely less full bodied than the St. Cosme. I wouldn’t say elegant but compared to the full throttle St. Cosme, maybe it is. The fruit profile is more red with tart rasberries and cherries. The blueberry certainly plays a role, but this does not have the massive blueberry pie flavors of the St. Cosme. Overall, I’d say this wine is much more food friendly and open now, but much less of a monster. I can purchase both for $12 locally and while I prefer this to the St. Cosme tonight, it could easily change depending on my stylistic preferences on any given night. 1/2/**
I just picked both of these wines up last week, and am very excited to try them. Everything I have heard about both of these has been positive.
Thanks for the note david. I too bought some a few weeks ago. Nice to hear it was a good purchase
Just to add- This blend is 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 20% Carignan so no wonder it’s different from the St. Cosme. I didn’t realize that this was heavily Grenache at first.
