This is a wine that I bought last night, opened and tasted, capped and refrigerated overnight, then re-tasted tonight. Quite nice, especially for the price. I have only just begun sampling some of the 2007 Cotes du Rhone bottlings…if this is any indication of the quality of the vintage, I will be a very happy camper.

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône Villages Les Champauvins - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages (6/27/2009)
Opaque purple/ruby robe with ruby rim. Clean nose, showing quite intense aromas of smoke, roasted herbs, blackberries and black cherry liqueur. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity, big tannins (which are slightly coarse) and flavors which mirror the nose. Medium-to-long, but slightly dry finish. I suspect that short-term cellaring would buff some of the sharp edges on this wine. Good value. Drink 1/11-12/16. (89 pts.)
