TN: 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur CdP

  • 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (12/22/2009)
nose: great depth with delicious tones of dark red fruits, pepper, some meaty tones, garrigue, herbs, spice tones, with a touch of lavender. Really attractive nose that is showing fairly well already

taste: Tasty medium feel with good tannins and well balanced tones of dark cherries, dark red fruits, spice tones, herbs de provence, and some lavender and incense. Real suave on the palate that has a fatness to it, and shows off some good layering already

overall: This is absolutely delicious. This really opened up with about 2 hours of decanting. Good tannins support the wine, but like a fair amount of other 07 CdPs that I’ve had, they aren’t big and chewy tannins. Doesn’t seem to be a long ager and is quite tasty right now. Should round out some with age, but this comes off as having a rather open window at this time (91 pts.)
