TN: 2007 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2007 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (7/10/2009)
Dark, nearly opaque garnet in color; deep, dark red fruits, dark plum, spice, that slight grenache savory/woodiness, not at all overripe, showing excellent structure and balance. A very nice Chateauneuf, not hedonistic as I hesitantly expected, showing plenty of interest and complexity. My only complaint might be that in this vintage there are some Cotes du Rhone wines that aren’t far behind this in depth and quality for less than 1/3 the price. (94 pts.)

Next day: this is even better 24 hours later, some of the raw woodiness has disappeared, a bit more structure has showed up, plenty of deep, complex plum fruit abounds, Superb wine.
