2007 Clos du Mont-Olivet Côtes du Rhône Vieilles Vignes Montueil la Levade - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (11/16/2009)
Gulpable CdR, I can sense the old vines here. Jk about the latter. I understand none of the Mont-Olivet wines see much, if any, new oak - which I like. Supposedly this vineyard is just beyond CdP fwiw. Though a lowly CdR, there’s definitely a sense of place about this wine, from the spice-cake and black raspberry bouquet on through the finish. Loads of acidity keeps this Febreeze fresh - really benefits from decant time, as it was tannic and tight to start. I’d be inclined to hold these for a few years though the chocolate-laced blackberry/raspberry fruit, lifted by the acidity, is tough to poo-poo with a weeknight lasagna.
