TN: 2007 Château Montrose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

  • 2007 Château Montrose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (12/26/2013)
A pleasant young Bordeaux, but I would be hard-pressed to place this anywhere near the price or reputation bracket of a Montrose. The nose was pleasant if not particularly arresting, with cassis, tobacco and earth. On the palate, this came across as particularly early drinking, with easy-going tannins and bright acidity gracing high-toned flavours of cassis seasoned with more of those tobacco and spice notes picked up on the finish. There was a nice, gentle elegance on this, but it was a little on the slim side, and the finish was not exactly impressive. Altogether, a good wine, but not great. Saying that though, it is not a bad option if you want a big-name young Bordeaux that will drink well young for a (relatively) decent price. This is giving some pleasure now and should continue to do so at least over the next decade. (91 pts.)
