2007 Château de Saint-Cosme Côtes du Rhône Les Deux Albion - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (9/25/2009)
I don’t think I’ve had a wine from Saint-Cosme that I didn’t enjoy and that trend continues with this wine. I could have sworn that this was a very high % of Syrah based on the nose alone with crushed ripe raspberries mixed with a really nice dose of white pepper. The peppery essence continued through to the palate and that’s an element that I really enjoyed with this wine. It gave it a nice bit of complexity that sets it apart from some of the more simple CdR’s out there. I was surprised to read that this is only 30% Syrah, with the rest being 40% Grenache and 10% each of Mouvedre, Carignan, and Clairette. All of the varietals were co-fermented together which appears to have worked quite well in this little gem. (92 pts.)
