TN: 2007 A to Z Wineworks Pinot Noir (USA, Oregon)

  • 2007 A to Z Wineworks Pinot Noir - USA, Oregon (8/23/2009)
The color is a fairly light ruby. Really nice nose of citrus, cranberry and some earth and spice. Light to medium bodied, the citrus (Karen says grapefruit) is prominent as is the cranberry and maybe some rhubarb. A tart finish ends this nice easy drinker. With a bit of unobtrusive tannin, I’d drink this over the next year or two. Decent value in the earthy, no candy end of the Pinot spectrum. (87 pts.)

What’s amazing about this wine is that they made 64,000 cases. That’s mind-boggling to me.

And didn’t they include grapes from every Oregon AVA?

I honestly don’t know, Chris, but since part of the Columbia Valley AVA lies in Oregon and there is very little pinot noir there, perhaps not.

Ah! You appear to be correct. (Big surprise.) They use grapes from “at least 30 different vineyards representing all the Oregon AVAa that grow Pinot”.

I was just too lazy to look, Chris. I’ve been out walking around a golf course all day and am a little pooped. No, I didn’t play.
