Best Rheingau producer, period.
Not for me. I really don’t enjoy Weil anymore. Too slick and crafted. Impressive, for sure, but by no means great.
Maybe Schloss Johannisberg for me after a long down period. Since 2004, their wines are just off the charts good.
You are really establishing your effeteness bona fides, aren’t you Lyle, turning up your nose at Weil.

I haven’t liked Weil for a while. Just a preference. I used to, but my palate changed. And they are a ripoff.
I don’t dislike the Weil wines, but in recent vintages I’ve found them somewhat one-dimensional. And given the corporate ownership, they don’t fit the model of small, owner/producer I like to support as much as possible. In Rheingau my first choice is Leitz.
I don’t know. I had a Spatlese with a couple of years on it (a 2004, perhaps?) a year or so ago that was sublime.
