TN: 2006 Reinhard & Beate Knebel - Winninger Röttgen Riesling Spätlese (Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer)

2006 Reinhard & Beate Knebel Winninger Röttgen Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (3/6/2017)
– decanted for 1.25 hours before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind on Days 1 and 3; TN from Day 3 –
– AP #: … 04 07 –

NOSE: expressive petrol; honeyed; kumquat; mineral; brings me back to the first few Rieslings I had; not complex.

BODY: rich golden amber color (seems too dark); no spritz; full bodied; very short cork came out of bottle with a bit too much ease.

TASTE: sweet, but little depth of flavor; falls of a cliff on the finish — almost nothing on the rear palate; not any better on Day 3 than on Day 1, and perhaps a touch worse; 11.5% alc. can be tasted a little — yes, depth of flavor is a problem here; acidity is medium-low; somewhat flat; more Auslese than Spatlese; inoffensive purchase at the $10 I paid, but I won’t be beating a path to buy more. Drink Now.
