2006 Poderi Luigi Einaudi Dolcetto di Dogliani - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Dolcetto di Dogliani (11/13/2009)
Traci and I cracked one of these to have with Rajat Parr’s “Cheesy farro risotto with Tomatoes”. A nice dish, we added some simply cooked sea scallops.
The wine was very nice. Nice ruby color with a fairly nice nose of menthol, red cherries, and a little smoke and anise. The texture is a little grainy/rustic on the palate but more red cherries, smoke, menthol and spice. It’s not particularly deep or long on the finish but has nice acidity to keep it bright and lively. The menthol is a little off putting to me but I don’t really care for that flavor profile. Nonetheless a very good wine that went pretty well with the dish. (86-87/100) (87 pts.)
