TN: 2006 Meo Camuzet Hauts Cote du Nuits Blanc Cuvee Phil

Stunning.

This is a white that absolutely defies any preconceived ideas about Nuits whites.

2006 Meo Camuzet Haut Cotes du Nuits Blanc Cuvee Philibert

Dense with white fruit. Minerality abounds. A length that is like a great Batard.
This is amazing stuff. Wow! How do they do this with Haut Cotes wine?

I attended a dinner with Jean-Nicolas Meo back in February and this wine was supposed to be served, but there was some issue that prevented it. Seems like I missed a beauty.

There is only one white in the Meo lineup, right? Or at least only one Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc? I think I have the 05 of this wine but never noticed the Clos Saint Philibert designation…

Josh,
This is the only Haut Cotes Blanc that Meo makes.
It is terrific.
Don

The 05 I had showed a bit too much oak for my tastes, in a sweet caramel/vanilla sort of way, which was a bit of a bummer because the underlying material seemed great. I picked these up for cheap on a whim, so looks like I should try another, I think I bought a 6 pack?

Are you generally a fan of 06 whites?

Don - keep posting, enjoy your notes.

Cote de Nuits white is very rare, especially from a regional appellation like Hautes-Cotes de Nuits.

My list as I remember is

Vogue Muisgny Blanc (Bourgogne Blanc now)
Chevillon NSG Blanc
Gouges NSG 1er Cru “La Perriere” (white Pinot)
Meo HCDN Blanc Phllibert
Ponsot MSD 1er Monts-Luisants
Dujac MSD 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants
Dujac MSD Blanc 1er Cru
Bruno Clair MSD En la Rue de Vergy Blanc

any others?

Arlot, Clos de l’Arlot NSG.

Vougeraie, Vougeout Blanc

Anne Gros Bourg Blanc - does it come from Nuits?

A.

I recently had the 06 Daniel Rion Haute-Cote de Nuits Bourgogne Blanc.

Josh,

Only from very good producers. Many are too fat or have significant botrytis that makes them strange however.
A little botrytis is a good thing in ripe vintages like 1992 as well as these 2006’s.
My take.

This Meo has cut along with the richness and is VERY clean.
Great stuff.

Lyle,

Ann Gros makes a nice one from the Haut Cotes area that is a Blanc. She also makes a Bourgogne Blanc which is different.

There is one from Jayer-Gilles that is just killin’ good too! Maybe better than the Meo which is fantastic.

Hope this is helpful.

I have 2 bottles of the 05 Jayer-Gilles HCdN Blanc as well… will have to give it a twirl sometime, sounds like Meo vs. Jayer-Gilles is in order!

Forgot about those. I would not count Bourgogne Blanc as then it opens up a whole can of worms. Like where does Fourrier source his from etc?

Don, enjoyed the note, please keep posting them.

I have some Rouget V-R that would go great in the comparo
