TN: 2006 Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Côte du Py

  • 2006 Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Côte du Py - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (12/23/2011)
Dark, youthful purplish red. Cool nose showing dark fruit, meaty notes and black pepper. If tasted blind, I might have gone N Rhone. Medium to full bodied, this enters with a mix of rocks and blackberries. The pure fruit aspect of this wine really emerges on the mid palate as it runs through layers of tart berries and some tart plum flavors. Still showing plenty of acidity, but tannins are mostly resolved. Very interesting finish which jumps between fruity and peppered flavors. Plenty of life in this one, but likely drinking at peak right now.

Thanks; I have a small pile of 07 bottles and have been trying to decide when to open one. Maybe another year or two.

Just popped a 2011 version of this Cote du Py. Very tasty. Leaner than the description of the '06 but definitely not underripe. Very much consistent with the meatiness of Morgon with nice integration, plenty of fruit and satisfying tension. Still a few years of aging possible…but why wait? The kind of wine that you find yourself a couple of glasses in before you realize how much you’re enjoying it.
