TN: 2006 L'Ecole No. 41 Sémillon (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley)

Ok, this one delivers for the price…like others have said, reminds me of a Chardonnay, but with less oak. The nose is complicated, but i’m getting pineapple, some nutty/vanilla combo. Must say swear i had an initial hit of cotton candy. The mouth feel is bordering creamy, soft textures with similar notes as the nose, more vanilla/nutty components - but not the classic “oaky” kind if you know what i mean - this was more classic vanilla/almond. There is a decent amount of acid/tartness combined in here, and i guess makes this an interesting mix with food. (89 pts.)

Thanks for the note here. I have been seeing the 2008 at Costco and have wanted to pull the trigger…especially at the price point.

L’Ecole gets kudos for championing semillion in Washington state for so many years. I wish they could do it in more of a white burgundy/dry sauternes type style, with less pineapple character. I think they’ve come closer to hitting the money with their sav blanc/semillion blend Luminesce.

John,

Did you mean to write “bordeaux”?

FWIW, I have long thought this is the perfect wine with fried fish.

Oops. Read “white Bordeaux”.
