After being tortured with too many oak bombs over the last few years, my intake of California chardonnay has significantly decreased. However, I’ve had a few very positive recent experiences that have restored some faith (mainly Arcadian/Rhys bottlings).
This is the first L’Angevin that I have tried. The winemaker was previously at Peter Michael before starting this new winery.
Nice nose of lychee/vanilla. Wonderful light mid-palate filled with pears. Some oak, but certainly not overpowering. Nice acidity, but very ready to drink. Decent finish. Glad I have five more of these in the cellar.
I’ve found that Chasseur is also quite approachable, and not oaky-offensive, and Dehlinger. Still, I’m not seeking it out, as I’d rather have some French or Italian whites instead. Too much Rombauer in the early years can do it to a guy…
So we need to figure out what to drink this week together!
You are right re: Chasseur. We thoroughly enjoyed the bottle you left with us after the New Year’s festivities. Haven’t tried Dehlinger as yet, but I’ve heard many good things.
I’m with you on the Rombauer…
Hopefully Wednesday will work out for dinner. Maybe a Bordeaux with something on the grill ? Don’t worry about bringing wine, we’ve got plenty.
I’ve got some wine - moved out of the duplex, since we never stay there much anymore. (Know anybody who wants to rent?) I also owe you for the two bottles of BDX, so my checkbook is packed and ready to go!
