TN: 2006 Joseph Swan Vineyards Mourvedre

  • 2006 Joseph Swan Vineyards Mourvedre - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/10/2010)
Decanted 1 hour consumed over 3. Nose is fresh cut flowers, dark cherries, and some damp earth. The palate starts with tart cherries that begin to take on a sweeter feel from the earthiness that follows. Nothing over ripe about it, just a textural change that makes the fruit go from tart to sweet. The mid palate is dominated with minerals that continue through to the finish where bracing acidity takes over. The acidity is something that I only really ever get with a good Swan Zin, where you have perfectly ripe fruit that is balanced out with great acidity on the finish. Oh did I mention the abv of 12.5%. Excellent.

The interesting thing about Swan is how they nail almost every varietal they do.

+1 to that Berry
