2006 Jaffurs Syrah Thompson Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (10/21/2009)
Dark inky color to it with nose of raw meat, campfire smoke and a ton of black pepper. Full bodied on the palate getting really dark, somewhat sweet fruit enveloping the mouth and leading to a very spicy (black peppery) and medium length finish. Could have also used maybe a bit more acidity for all the fruit. Although a solid wine, this was not the fantastic bottle I have come to (almost) expect whenever I open a Jaffurs. It was just a tad too sweet and nothing really stood out, IMO.
