TN: 2006 J. L. Chave Hermitage Blanc

Really jumps from the glass with melon, honeysuckle, apricot and almond aromas. In the mouth, you get such wonderful fruit and honey notes with marzipan and pretty apple flavors. There’s a great brioche character and an awesome saline quality that runs through the wine as well. Unctuous mouthfeel and a super long finish. Was much better after it warmed up to more of a room temperature. Flavors really popped as it warmed. Easily one of the best white wines I’ve ever tasted. Just an incredible experience. If you are lucky to have some uncork a bottle and give it a go. Killer juice.

Great note. Sitting on two mags of this vintage.
Need to find an event where others would appreciate this wine.

Oh wow. Super jealous. I wish I had more. Randomly decided to pop the cork as my wife wanted mushroom toasts tonight and felt like I needed to open this up since we didn’t have the kids.
I hope you enjoy those mags. It’s awesome stuff.

Chave Blanc is simply an amazing wine and has no peer when it comes to Hermitage Blanc.

I truly believe that aged Roussanne and Marsanne wines can be simply magical - in a very geeky way.

What temperature did you serve this at? I fine them so intoxicating at cellar to room temperature but no cooler.

The texture can be so singular that it really is simply a joy to drink - and as complex as any red that I’ve consumed as well.

I agree with you on temp. Not sure the exact temperature, but I opened the bottle about 10 mins after I took it out of my wine storage unit which is 55 degrees. It was great then, but it really took off as it got closer to room temp, which I’d say when it got to about 65 degrees. Room was about 70 degrees.

Texture is wild on these wines. If you aren’t used to them, I feel like they can catch you off guard a bit. I don’t know how to describe other than “oily” or sort of unctuous. Nothing quite like them.

Yep, it can be challenging to describe but I use those 2 words as well. I also say it’s somewhat like drinking honey without the sweetness.

Cheers

Yeah good call. Almost like a beeswax sort of thing.
