TN: 2006 Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée

  • 2006 Domaine Georges Mugneret/Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée (2/26/2009)
So this is what they refer to as “Vosne spice”! Bright ruby red in the glass; aromas of fresh cracked pepper, black dirt and strawberries. In mouth it’s an assertive blend of sweet and savory spices (5 spice powder, I dare say) on a background of mushroom-y earthiness, strawberry and red cherry. The jolting acidity makes the wine feel lighter than it should be; I’m thinking some bottle age will balance this small issue out. (90 pts.)

Si señor. [thank_you.gif]

It was actually brought to my home by a friend in town from D.R. We made steak au poivre that night. The wine matched SURPRISINGLY well with the dish. Again, it was that atypical, or typical according to Bowden, spice characteristic.

Nice note. I am being surprised more and more at the quality of the 2006 reds that I’ve had so far.

I feel the same way. Particularly, I liked the 2006s of Daniel Rion, and, for right bank Bdx, was pretty impressed with Clinet, Figeac, Canon la Gaffelière and La Conseillante.
