2006 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru (4/8/2011)
Wow. Still young, still a bit in its shell, but even then this was clearly the best wine in a tasting full of incredible pinots. Quite clearly the DRC in the pack, but I thought it might have been the La Tache on the nose itself - sweet spices, dark fruits, dark cherries, anise, oriental spices, a touch of oak, just that hint of bramble, some flowers. Complex, intriguing, with all sorts of deep and mysterious notes that really called for full attention. The palate was probably the most complete of any of the 15 wines we had. Beautiful depth, super fine tannins, fresh juicy acidity, all integrated together with deeply-wound flavours of dark cherries, a bit of cherry syrup, orange peel, dried fig skin and a whole backdrop of more savoury uamami notes, almost like Hoi Sin sauce and roast duck there. So complex, tons going on, there was an intellectual aspect to the wine on the first sip, but a hidden joy that started to show itself as we sipped on. Classy, feminine, playful, vibrant yet with a real serious core. I loved this. I can only imagine what a tremendous wine it will be in say, a decade or more. (95 pts.)

Paul, you are drinking well, DRC from '06, '02, etc. Have I mentioned that I hate you… LOL, just kidding, actually I’m just jealous.

DRC’s RSV has really come on strong the past few years, rivaling and even beating their Richebourg. Unfortunately, the price now matches that wine. It’s great to read this note. Thanks.
