2006 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (11/27/2009)
nose: rich and dense nose of creme de cassis, black cherries, new oak, dark plums, sour berries and some bits of smoke and framboise emerge as it opens up. Excellent depth with a real sensuous nose, but has a fairly modern touch to it too as there is a ripeness at the same time
taste: Full bodied with gripping tannins that really bite on the back end. Framboise, new oak, Black cherries, sour berries, smoke and roasted coffee beans balance out well together. Lots of polish on the feel and the new oak starts to disappear a bit with air.
overall: a very different LaLande then I have experienced. Not seeing the correlation to the 96 that Parker eluded to, but this certainly is a interesting and rich LaLande that deserves attention. Needs a whole boatload of time to fully come together. Somewhat ripe right now, but has a reigned in sense to it, so it should become very interesting as it ages and smooths out more (92 pts.)
