2006 Chappellet Vineyard Cyril’s Cuvée Limited Release - USA, California, Napa Valley (3/12/2010)
Visually shows a ruby core extending to a thin ruby rim with long legs. On the nose, the wine shows poignant and concentrated notes of vanilla, crushed red berry, blackberry, rose petal, striking minerality and warm baked brie. On the palate, I experienced a medium+ bodied red with firm yet grainy tannins, balanced (warming, not hot) alcohol throughout, balanced acidity, pronounced flavors of mineral stoniness, hot baked plum, cassis, blackberry, red and green bell pepper, cedar, vanilla and a long, palate drenching finish. I felt the wine benefitted tremendously from decanting, as it unfolded and bloomed out of bottle. Quality was very good, based on the concentration and complexity of fruit, lengthy finish. Ready to drink and would certainly benefit from 5-8 years of proper storage. Gorgeous and sumptuous. (92 pts.)
