TN: 2006 Carlisle Two Acres (USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley)

14.8% alcohol. Wow, this is a precocious youngster. Popped and poured. Dark red/purple color. Inky texture. Aromatic nose of meat, olives, and lots of pepper, along with black fruit. In the mouth, tight and still quite bruising as it opened up to more air. Loads of fruit. Wound up with complexity. Bright acidity and massive tannins. Much more time necessary, but it’s going to be awesome. A-

Count me as a two acre fan, but you are right…they seem to need time.

This really needs it. I think I had a 2002 in 2007 that was totally singing … five years from vintage seems like a minimum for this edition.

Five or six years minimum. We had a smoking 2003 back in November.

About a year and a half ago Mike Officer came down for a tasting of all the Two Acres (1998 - 2006) save one (and a few other wines). At that tasting the 2002 was one of my two favorites (with the 2005) and seemed to still be improving. The lesson I learned was to buy more Two Acres, and let them age. I tend to be tannin-phobic, and will not be drinking any of mine until they are at least eight years old.
