This is always a stellar value year in and year out but '05 might be the most special one made yet. Just a mammoth of a wine with heaps of fruit, earth and complexity. Great tannic structure. Has the grip and fruit of a 1er Cru but maybe not the finesse. The nose is stunning, but needs an hour of coaxing to get there. All brambly fruit with some bark and liquer elements. Brooding, dark, gamey. The palate has an explosion of layered, pure fruit with sweet tannins and beautiful sweet fruit. Not delicate but man what fruit, what structure and what brilliant integration of oak. It is there but wow oh wow is it knit into this wine. Another ridiculous 2005.
