TN:2005 Novy Rosellas Syrah;2004 Copain Cailloux&Coccinelle

  • 2005 Novy Family Wines Syrah Rosella’s Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (2/7/2009)
Popped and poured. Gamy nose, barnyard. Rich, thick and viscous in the mouth, dark fruits. Light on its feet, midpalate and finish gives the classic grapefruit taste of Rosellas. Nice acidity. Great food wine.
  • 2004 Copain Syrah Cailloux & Coccinelle - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley (2/7/2009)
Decanted two hours. Nose was dominated by olives. Palate was green olive oil. I don’t know what happened to this bottle but it sure wasn’t good.

Brian, thanks for the note on the Novy, been holding on to mine. Do you think there’s any upside to these or just drink up now?

Joe,

It’s drinking very well right now, so feel free to pop and enjoy!

Brian, thanks for the TNs.

It’s been 2 years since I drank the 04 Copain C and C. I looked at my TN in CT and I noted beef blood and herbal notes. I guess I oughta drink my last one for kicks and see what it’s all about.

PS I am with Joe on the Novy Rosella’s. Love that wine each and every vintage. If I could find the 2003 right now, I would buy a bunch of it. Drinking very well right now–drank my last 2003 recently. I have good stock on all the vintages since…Brian, dark fruits and grapefruit…hmmmmmmmmmmm!
