TN: 2005 GOULÉE -Medoc
I opened this 05 inexpensive Bord on a whim tonight. The bottles are huge and really a pain in the arse to store so I got rid of one of my three I purchased EP for $24 schmakers to make room for some 07 CDP’s arriving soon.
This is a reasonably new offering from Mssr. Pratts the good friend of our beloved member, “The most important Bordeaux Blogger in America”,
and the fine folks at Cos d’ Estournal and almost Montelena Estate. The name derives from the location outside of the Medoc near the Port of GOULÉE North of Bordeaux.
The wine is incredibly dark for a young Bord. It poured out black as night. Pop and pour. A subtle nose of flowers, dark, dark fruit and annise.
This is a large bodied wine that matches the dark color. It is surprisingly accessible for a wine of this size with minimal tannic intrusion. The palate is long cassis, earth and licorice, yet short of subtlety. A nice drinking wine nevertheless. Not much complexity and balance lacking as one would expect from a lesser appellation at this point in its progression.
I am somewhat impressed and now saddened that I turned down an offer of $220 a case several months ago from a dealer. It appears to be still available from Wine Library for $24.99 should anyone be interested in a sniffy sniffy.

Jack - thanks for the notes. I am a big Cos fan and sought this one out a few months but never obtained a bottle.
Appreciate the notes and feedback.
I am a big fan of the 2003 of this one.
