2005 Freeman Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (5/11/2009)
This wine seems to be going through a transitional phase. Cool aromas of blueberries, black cherries, sassafras, wet soil and smoke. Juicy on the palate with mild notes of black cherries (a touch of strawberries with extended air), black tea, smoke and forest floor. Loses some of its fruit on the slightly woodsy finish. (88 pts.)
From what I have been reading, a lot of 2006 Pinots seem to be in a sweet spot right now. Better to drink those while your 2005s evolve.
Any particular area? Sonoma? Santa Barbara? All?
A lot of the 06’s seem to be coming out of their shell to me. Not sure if they are all in their sweet spots collectively. Experimentation shall continue.
