TN: 2005 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Sixtine

  • 2005 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Sixtine - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (4/9/2017)
WOW. This wine brought some serious thunder. It was the last bottle of a 3-pack, the first 2 drunk in 2009 and 2014 and while I enjoyed those, they were nothing in comparison to how good the years treated this one. The nose was filled with forest floor, pine needles, anise, black fruits and tar. It swept across the palate with a sweet grittiness of black fruit mixed with anise, tobacco and a touch of garrigue. Medium ripe tannins, medium acidity and a long finish completed the package. OUTSTANDING!

Glad to hear the 2005 showed well. The 2003 was a complete disaster.

Thanks for the tasting note. The Difonty’s don’t usually get the credit they deserve for the quality of their wine.
