2005 Clot de l’Oum Côtes du Roussillon Villages Saint Bart Vieilles Vignes- France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages (7/19/2009)
Medium bodied, dark, not quite opaque ruby, fascinating nose of crushed fruit, iron, iodine; deep, vibrant, dark red fruits, a strong mineral backbone, granite, firm tannins on the finish, a wine that provides both pleasure and great interest in the drinking. Unusual and terrific wine. There is plenty of deep fruit here, but if you’re looking for hedonism, look elsewhere. Brilliant wine for its style, and a definite Garagiste winner for this taster.
This is even better the next day, chewy blackberry, black fig, charcoal grilled meat, deep and brawny, iron, iodine, crushed granite. Fabulous wine. (92 pts.)
I had a rep bring this by to taste a couple of months ago. I certainly agree that it is a very interesting wine. It has such layers of complexity that do develop over several days if you let them.
My first opportunity to try this winner from Garagiste the other night. Very much aligned with Alan’s original note; an interesting, complex and delicious wine. Still going strong and in no way headed down or past peak. Glad I bought a six pack.
