I’ve always had a soft spot for this estate. Been drinking it since I discovered Bordeaux as a wee lad. And gracefully, it has remained true to its core to me despite the pendulum swings we have seen in Bordeaux these last 25 or so years.
Musky nose of dank earth, old barn plank and big dark fruits and cassis. Hints of sweaty saddle leather (some squeamish folks might say slight brett). Fairly well-integrated palate, mostly dark fruits but some light red fruit acids, earth and ground cover, sweet cigar wrapper. Chalky tannins, still chewy but resolving. Followed for two nights, more fresh and crisp on day one, picked up considerable weight and more
complexity on day two. Really enjoyed the ride. An excellent, classic drink.

I (we) are old enough that this will always be Château Mouton-Baron Philippe in my heart:

Wait, is that who I think it is?
P.S. I enjoyed the note, very useful as I have 7-8 bottles of this in the cellar.

They had him at “sweaty saddle.”
That’s some cheesy buff poseur at a Polo event trying to look like a Baller, hot lady on his arm. Meh, purple silk blazer, yuk. Nope, don’t know him.
Got a case of these from auction last year, been through 4, all vey nice. Your note is more elegant, but I had similar impressions, drinking very well. Sounds like I might try holding some for day 2 or longer decant.
Splash decanted. First from a lot at auction, clean cork, minimal sediment. Nicely aromatic. Red currant, oak. Lithe and energetic, crunchy berries, with just of bit of tannic bite on the finish. Open, but still youthful. 13% ABV.

There has been many times that I’ve questioned the attitude that this was the poor relative to Clerc Milon.
