2005 Chasseur Chardonnay Twin Hill - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/24/2009)
The oak is very prominent on the nose, but it does balance with a good dose of tropical fruits and apple. As with the nose, the palate has a lot of oak, but again, well integrated with the fruit. This wine has a rich mouthfeel and a very deep golden color. Nice finish of walnuts, apples, and some tropical fruit. (91 pts.)

We love Chasseur chardonnays, particularly the single vineyard ones (which also includes Green Acres Hill Sangiacomo, Durrell Sand Hill, and Lorenzo). They are crafted with top-notch winemaking in the bigger California style. Deep, balanced, rich, great with food (lots of chicken dishes, salmon and other fish, and much more), they are always a great pleasure. In the Aubert camp without the stratospheric price, and as with Aubert we prefer their chards to their pinots. To be sure, there are times when the food and feeling calls for the more unoaked, crisp style of chardonnay, but when you want something lip-smacking, these are fantastic.
Nice note, Barnet, thanks.
I’ve got the rest of the '05 SVD Chardonnays still in the cellar, as well as the Pinots, back in the day when they had a club, and the discount made them an absolute cinch to buy for value and quality. I had the '05 Chasseur Blank Vineyard Pinot Noir (notes posted on this forum) a week ago, and it was even better to me than this Twin Hill Chardonnay - really unique PN, even with the HUGE alcohol.

Yep, those were good days, and that’s how I got 'em, too. I haven’t bought any SV’s for a while, though I did spring for some appelation chards this time around.
