2005 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (7/29/2017)
Got the urge to check on a 2005 for no good reason and found this. Popped and poured. Medium ruby color. Nose was a fulsome blast of mulberry, cranberry, anise, damp cellar, forest floor, and alpine flowers which did not waver. Palate crammed with detailed, powerfully-pitched layers of black raspberry, mulberry, iodine, and earth supported by steely texture but also brimming with fruit. Refreshing, mouth-watering acidity and austere but buried tannin, leading to a long finish of red and black fruit mixed with subtle hints of iron and slow grip at the end. Pulled like a freight train all evening and never let up. Yes, accessible and yes, this will continue to bloom and evolve further into the zone for a very long time. (92 pts.)
