TN: 2005 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année (France, Champagne)

2005 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année - France, Champagne (3/11/2023)
Afternoon Champagne with Gougeres is a Saturday treat in our house. Decided to open a bottle of the 2005 Gramd Année, as we wanted something a little more full bodied than the endless parade of extra brut/brut nature Blanc de Blancs that seem to pass our way. This certainly fit the bill, and if not the most interesting vintage of GA, it got the job done, especially as an accompaniment to the Gougeres. We make ours with four year aged Gouda, so they have an intensity of flavor that worked really well with the wine. I wasn’t even thinking about aromas or flavors, just that the wine and the food were really good together. That’s a big win!

I had my first Grand Annee last week, the 2007 Rose. It was delicious big house style, lots of creamy strawberry. Went down too easily.

Wait until you try the '08. Blew my socks off.

I had a bottle of the 2008 last year. It’s delicious, but my socks stayed on.
