    Deep, deep garnet with a transparent rim. Ample legs confirm the 13.6% ABV. Nice nose of smoked meat and dark fruit. Palate reflects aromas. Slightly bitter, mostly resolved tannins well balanced with stewed fruits. Ample acidity keeps this from being goopy. All in all a decent, if not spectacular, bottle.

thanks for the note…I got a bottle of the '05 stashed somewhere, and everything else I’ve had from this producer I’ve really enjoyed (particularly petite sirah and teroldego)

I enjoyed your note. I’m not certain what you mean with “ample legs confirm the 13.6% ABV.” Can you explain further?

Merrill, I’ve always been told that the legs revealed by swirling are an indicator of the wine’s alcohol content: numerous and viscous legs indicating a higher ABV content. This wine clung pretty tenaciously to the glass compared to the lighter wines we’ve been drinking this summer (mostly reislings and roses).
