2004 Storybook Mountain Vineyards Antaeus - USA, California, Napa Valley (7/23/2009)
My first Storybook Mtn wine…very nice! Blend of 59% Zin, 21% Cab, 15% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot…beautiful dark berry aromas from the cab, with a cool dusty peppery spice from the zin. Smooth and stout in the mouth, yet polished and balanced well with all the varietals. Brambly dark berry fruits, ripe and well endowed…super tasty exotic dusty wood spice, pepper, kirsch liqueur, spice cake mix. No mistake the Zinberry and spice…but the cab and merlot add a nice dark plushness to the wine, as well as solid tannic backbone and some tasty creamy oak. Mocha cocoa bean and a little spicy oak on the finish…tasty wine! Reminds me of the Prisoner. (93 pts.)
