TN: 2004 Sottimano Barbaresco Cottá (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco)

  • 2004 Sottimano Barbaresco Cottá - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (5/10/2016)
This thing is supremely youthful and still primary. Dark cherry fruits are glossy and deep. There are some enticing floral notes. You get some sweet cedar and tar as well. The palate if polished and just below the flesh lies serious earthy structure. It is delicious and the balance means that the wine is thoroughly enjoyable now but it is a couple of decades away from its apogee.

Thanks Jeremy. I love the Sottimano wines!

Lovely wines Jeremy. The regular Nebbiolo is top stuff in most vintages.

Not Sottimano, but the regular Produttori 2004 I opened recently was at a lovely moment.

I thought you guys might be interested in knowing that when I visited Andrea Sottimano in 2006, he said with respect to the 2004s that this is the vintage “to build a wall”, i.e., buy a lot of 2004s, build a wall in front of the wine and forget about it, and then in many years, knock the wall down.

Fine for the thirty year-olds…

Asher, I think I’ll build a bridge and get over it and drink all mine too young.
