TN: 2004 Robert Sinskey Vineyards Merlot Los Carneros

  • 2004 Robert Sinskey Vineyards Merlot Los Carneros - USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros (2/14/2011)
Decanted two hours. Purple core with a maroon rim. Nice nose showing mocha dusted bing cherry. Not bad on the first sip while cooking. Some more dark cherry/mocha notes. Full bodied with some tannins. This absolutely did not play well with rack of lamb, squash and homemade pasta and tomato sauce. My sauce is pretty acidic, and this was pretty full bodied, so I figured, no big deal, not a match and we can enjoy the wine after dinner.

This really took a dive. The fruit disappeared, the alcohol really began to show through and the finish turned bitter. Only one other CT taster has experienced this, and they chose not to score the wine as others have enjoyed it and scored it higher. I’ll follow suit and won’t put an official score in, but I will add to the text that I wouldn’t score it above 75 points.
