2004 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (7/26/2009)
Opened about one hour prior to pouring…still exhibiting a medium dark garnet robe. The first whiff is strawberry with a hint of smoke and cola. As it sat in the glass, a bit of earth and almost “garrigue” emerged. Very different from most Sonoma pinots.
Well balanced and round in the mouth…the finish still shows a nice touch of acidity and lingers on. Overall, the wine improved in the glass and was a perfect match for planked Wild Alaskan salmon with a mustard, bourbon glaze.
The wine was quite drinkable but the balance and acidity bode well for a bit more aging.
