TN: 2004 Piombo Shiraz (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale)

  • 2004 Piombo Shiraz - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (1/18/2011)
Opened the first of three of this wine this evening and was pleasantly surprised by this QPR Aussie. The color is an inky black purple. The expressive nose is filled with spice, dark fruits, pencil lead, licorice, and blackberry. The flavor profile is complex and engaging. Very hedonistic. Flavors of tart cherry, berry, dark fruits, pepper-spice, vanilla and earth. A little heat on the long finish. For the tariff quite a bottle of wine. Happy to have a few more to visit over the next 3-5 years. Nice. (93 pts.)
