TN: 2004 Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin

  • 2004 Philippe Pacalet Gevrey-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (1/7/2012)
Great news! This wine and PP’s other 2004s had up until recently been shrill, angular, angry wines. Well, cellar time has rounded this one out and added some depth and texture, making it very pleasing indeed. Deep, tart cherry, peppermint, blood orange and pink peppercorn nose. Some cinnamon and clove. On the palate, more citrus peel, red currant and some baking spice. Lively but integrated acids and full mouth feel, offering a balanced composition and a touch of creaminess that holds it together front to back. Finish is long and fine. This wine has hit its stride after a somewhat awkward youth. A pleasant surprise, to me at least. (92 pts.)

Glad to hear the positive report on an 04. I haven’t visited any in a few years but need to dig some out.
