TN:2004 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium

  • 2004 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (5/21/2009)
A quiet beauty. Deep and dark with nary a sign of demise. The nose is all camphor, cassis, creme de kirsch and framboise. The palate has the cassis with a soft but firm mouthfell. There is the kirsch and the creme, but there is also some tar, and leather. Some black plums with a hint of super black cherry, This has surely quieted down since my last taste. A decent acid level keeps this lively and fresh. A long and exact finish beckons more…and I’m glad to have more in the cellar. (94 pts.)

Hey Mike I have one left…when?

This had a 3 hour decant.
I would say now for 5/6 years.
The 05 longer and the 06 longer still

Nice mid-week pour. [cheers.gif]

Thanks for the note. I will continue to sit on these for a couple of years.

It was my #3 Cab last night, behind the Abeja Reserve (96pts) and the Owen Roe Dubrul (95pts). It was certainly the best of the California wines we had. I was dissappointed slightly by the '03 Sherwin I brought. It may have had too much airtme as I poured it into the Pandora bottle at 10am.

Agreed

Which was 13, 16, 17, 18?

I think 16 was Mike Amones wine, which was either a 97 or 94 Mondavi Reserve I believe. I think 13 was Jeff’s wine, which I don’t know what it was. I think 17 was Andy’s wine, which was '98 Andersen Valley Eloge. 18 was the Owen Roe Dubrul I brought.

I liked the Own Roe better than the Abeja Reserve.
It (Owen Roe) came right before it (Abeja), right?

Yes

As you know, it is always a solid wine. One of Thomas’ best projects. Thanks for the note.
