TN: 2004 Mauro Veglio Barolo Vigneto Alborina

I’m finding it very difficult to keep my mitts off 04 Barolos as the tannins are so sweet and the wines so well balanced that they’re just so delicious.

This is no exception. Textbook botanicals, liquirice and herbed cherries glide effortlessly down teh gullet, followed by an elongated, sweet tannin finish. “Velvet fist in an iron glove” presence, but amazingly approachable. Partnered a chicken and leek pie ona cold winters night very well.

Cheers,
Kent

Infantcide!

Drink the 05s and let your 04s cellar for about 15 years or so. Then be truly dazzled!

Gordon,
It’ll be the last 04 for some time that I bust…I promise!!!

I have only tried a couple of 05s, but agree they are quite user friendly and don’t seem to have the stuffing of the 04s from my limited sample set.

Cheers,
Kent

I agree with you completely Kent -

And the 2004’s from Veglio are really stunning - The Alborina was my favorite of his offerings as well - I remember tasting them right on release and just being blown away -
