TN 2004 Lascombes

The Puppeteer started a thread about how the EWS guys all loved the 04 Lascombes despite many finding it similar to a California or dreaded Oz wine. It is a shame that he string master needs to prove himself right so often these days. All he has to do is fire his a-hole Maos and the world would be a better place. Err, back to the wine.
This is a large scaled wine. I splash decanted for two hours and it needed every milisecond. Big, almost California Cab mouthfeel with a distinctive Bordeaux flavor assortment. The wine is not the typical Margaux typicity. There are distinctive blueberries, smoke, and mocha coffee laced oak notes that are present but not overly distracting although I can see purists and traditionalists dishing this baby since it doesn’t taste like a Margaux. Shit, if I really need to taste a Margaux, I could always just open one. 93 JB sounds about right. I am glad to have 5 more. This is a young un for me but worth the effort.
Cheers. [cheers.gif]

Amazing…I’m drinking the same wine right now but from a split. Mine needed about 20 minutes to open up but it does remind me a lot of a Cal Cab…I like it a lot but I want a BDX tonight.

Steve, next time open up an Haut Brion. I guarantee that is never California. [big_boss.gif]

I’m saving my HB for special occasions but I do have splits of the 04 for a nice meal at home. BTW, I love Graves.

I am just trying to stay out of one. [wow.gif]

But, but, but … I thought only California produces oak bombs? [diablo.gif]

Paul the oak is clearly present as mochas/espresso but far from obtrusive.

That’s what I always say about certain wines but some people (ahem, Cris) just don’t want to listen. [gen_fro.gif]

No, you think obtrusive oak makes a wine “sexy”. [diablo.gif] I need to open one of my Monbousquet’s for you. You’ll LOVE them.

No, I was not seduced by the oak, I was seduced by the fruit (that sounds kind of dirty [blush2.gif]). Looking forward to that Monbousquet! [dance.gif]

Jack, one Costco here has about two cases at $54 a bottle…worth it?

Paul you should blind taste Cris a few wines and see what he says =P

If you like Pavie, a no brainer.

I was afraid you might say that. Looks like I will have to make a trek to Fort Worth.

I scored a case of '03 Monbo for stupid money from Rich O’Neill this week.

I have another bottle that you can probably have. Or maybe I should just pour it for Paul and get it over with.

The 04 Lascombes recently KILLED the competition, including some big names that start with “L”.

I’ll trade you for a bottle of 1989 S. Anderson SLD Richard Chambers Vineyard Cab I have.

Saw that.

TN day two-
The wine is less flambouyant, no real oak to speak of and more bordeaux in its presentation. Saxon, open your next split, give it 20-30 minutes and recork for a day= Bordeaux.

Or speaking to another beloved member, Landreth if you buy any drink them on day one. [rofl.gif]
