TN: 2004 Krug Clos du Mesnil

5/1/2025 Per Krug ID bottle disgorged in 2017.
Medium yellow color. Enjoyed with Grand Omakase menu to get a wide variety of pairings. Initially on the warm side and showing yellow fruit, toast, and some chamomile on the nose with a deep chalky core wrapped in spiced apple, toasted hazelnut, and brioche on the palate. After cooling down, more ginger and lemon notes joined in and this was kaleidoscopic with the variety of dishes, but really needed coaxing to show its stuff. Potential is there for this to come together and be jaw-dropping with some more time. For now, simply excellent and to expectations. For my tastes, hold for at least 5 more years.

Cheers,

This is one of two 04s that I’ve liked to date (along with taittinger cdc). I thought it was ready to go a couple years ago though.

I ended up with a few of Tarlant’s '04 extended tirage wines and have been enjoying them. The Krug was a 2021 purchase and was a bit of pandemic retail therapy. I’ll say it worked.
