TN: 2004 Gerard Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin "Lavaux-St-Jacques" 1er

I still have quite afew '04s in the cellar and seldom reach for them, but really it is time to start ‘enjoying’ them despite the lowly reputation of the vintage.

For a 16 yo wine this is still rather fresh, no doubt freshened by the natural acidity of the vintage. It does not really show mean greenies but does have a celery salt edge to the fruit which i often see in the vintage. It is not over powering but it is there. Like many Raphet wines this is just mid-weight, pretty and perfumed, with good balance and nice red fruited definition and earth. It is really drinking rather well now and the slightly salty tannins worked brilliantly with a leg of lamb. More than a curio and quite pleasant.

nice report.

Thanks Kent.
