TN: 2003 Quinta de Ventozelo Tinta Roriz Douro

Since this bottle was recommended by a member of :ftlop: I picked up a bottle today for a whopping $16 since I’ve never had it before.

Pulled the cork about an hour ago, but not poured into a decanter. Very nice bouquet of cherries with a little touch of barnyard mixed in. This continues to improve as I’ve been drinking it as the light cherries have gotten more pronounced and the light tannins are now very prominent. A little bit of green stems was present early on, but as this has now integrated nicely. Considering 2003 was such a hot year with ripe grapes, this is surprisingly refreshing and well balanced. Some youthful oak shows on a long finish full of elegant cherries. A wine that I am quite enjoying and will buy again and one I have no doubt will age for at least another 3-5 years before it peaks.

ftlop???

Nice to see you working hard in the avatar!!

Come on Jim, you know my love of Portuguese wines and Port and all the time I devote to promoting it on Roy’s site…and moderating his forum neener

The avatar was from October at the Offley Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal) where their master blender challenged us to make the same Offley 10 Year Old Tawny Port that he makes. All those bottles are what he uses in the final blend. Except for one that he threw in to try and stump us. While it was fun playing Master Blender, it was no easy task and I can honestly say that even though I made a decent 10 year old blend, it paled in comparison to the real deal.

duH!!! For the love of port … got it…

very cool about the blending…
