TN: 2003 Müller-Catoir Haardter Herrenletten Riesling Spätlese (Germany, Pfalz)

2003 Müller-Catoir Haardter Herrenletten Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Pfalz (4/8/2020)

6th time I have had this wine and it has never disappointed. Terry Theise gave it his highest rating of +++. We paired this with some Burmese takeout. Still a light pale yellow color. An aromatic wine with hibiscus and pear aromas. On the palate there were notes of fine minerals, grapefruit, tangerine and tropical nuances. Still has solid acidity holding everything together with moderate sweetness on the finish. I have 1 more bottle which I will hold for a few more years. 93 points.

I had to buy this after the great tasting notes of 18’ by Christer Byklum: " 2018 Müller-Catoir Herrenletten Riesling Erste Lage

Kr 309,90

Pale lemon yellow. Some citrus, apples, orange blossoms, pears, fine tuned minerals note, whiff of candied lemons nose. Fresh acidity, apples, lemons, nuanced, pears, starting out firm and linear before it gets a peacock tail from mid palate to the finish, broadens up getting complex and long indeed. A stunning Erste Lage. This would impress as a graceful style GG even. So delicate yet powerful. Ethereal. Like a song from Aurora. 94"

I think I’ve never been more hyped to try a wine… lol

And all this in the post-HGS era.

(I really do like the work Martin Franzen is doing at Catoir these days, but it’s a completely different winery from the 2001 and older era.)
